Sphaeropsis sapinea is a destructive pathogens of Pinus species in many parts of the world. It was identified on 48 pine species, but also on the species in the genera Abies, Araucaria, Cedrus, Chamaecyparis, Cupresus, Juniperus, Larix, Picea, Pseudotsuga and Thuja. In Yugoslavia the greatest damage is caused on Pinus nigra, in plantations above 20 years of age and in urban environments. The critical period of infection is from mid April to mid May. The combination of silvicultural and chemical measures of control can reduce the consequences of this serious disease, and the most efficient means are the funggicides based on copper and Benomil.
