The standard service tables which are used for electric starters testing serve only to test their function (on-off) and they cannot be used for the recording of electro-mechanical characteristics. Due to the mentioned reasons in the Technical Testing Center of the Serbian-Montenegrin Army the adaptation of a test table BOSH type EFAW 275 A has been made in the following manner: the force distributor, number of revolutions meter and current power meter drawn by the electric starter from accumulator battery were built in; they all make it possible to measure power, maximum torque and voltage depending on the current power. All measured values are recorded by the data acquisition system built in the computer so that it is possible to record the complete electro-mechanical characteristics of a starter within about 5 seconds of starter braking. The recording methods used so far required large and expensive equipment for power supply and measurement due to long-lasting work and warming of tested starter. All these are avoided by the mentioned modification. Introducing a computer and data acquisition system into the measuring chain enables direct evaluation of each tested starter according to the characteristics provided for by the constructor's project documents. This paper, as a justification for the said modification, shows the test results of 3 starters of various manufacturers. The test table modification offers greater effectiveness and efficiency of the test process, as well as more reliability of evaluation of their quality.
