One of the recently developed methods of using computers for solving practical problems in agriculture and for direct use by end users, such as farmers, policy-makers, extension agents and others who do not have extensive computer training and skills, is through the use of expert systems. Expert systems, a branch of "Artificial Intelligence" science which can be briefly described as the automation of intelligent behaviours of human being, are special computer software applications that are capable of carrying out reasoning and analysis functions in narrowly defined subject areas at proficiency levels approaching that of a human expert. In this study, in order to select machines suitable for various farm types and scales, the expert system, namely "EXTARMAK", has been developed and described.
