A family of asymptotic functions for forest models
2002
Nilson, A. (Estonian Agricultural University, Tartu (Estonia). Department of Forest Management)
The new family of asymptotic functions rth resulted from the generalisation and expansion of the hyperbolic tangent and the expression 1 - e sup(-z). The family is flexible and capable of concentrating into one many of the traditional forest growth, height-diameter and distribution functions. We found the set of user-defined rth-functions in the form of records in the table of the model-base to be a compact and handy tool for handling large sets of models. We have 66 variants of user-defined functions for rth-functions in the model-base of the Faculty as well as a similar package rthset. R generated automatically from the model-base for the statistical software system R. The package is designed for use as a handy tool for model-makers in forestry (and other domains)
