Field experiment conducted to study the nitrogen management in a cereal-legume cropping system indicated that though the rice yields were the highest with 100% recommended dose of nitrogen applied through fertilizer, the highest total and available nitrogen, available phosphorus and potassium content in the soil after rice was recorded with 50% and 25% substitution through organic manures. Application of 50% nitrogen through vermi compost to rice had significant effect on pod and haulm yields of groundnut besides leaving higher available nilrogen content in the soil. Total nitrogen content in the soil after groundnut was highest with 50% N substitution through BAG. Application of 100% and 50% RDN to groundnut recorded the almost similar and higher total nitrogen content in the soil over no nitrogen.
