Paederus fuscipes Curtis was reported as an important predator of many crop pests. Studies were carried out on seasonal occurrence of P. fuscipes and its association with various host plants at farms of Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand during 1999-2000. Seasonal abundance of the predator was recorded on 13 crop plants. The results revealed that the predator was active throughout the year and maintained sizeable population on these crops. Highest activity of the predator was observed on sunnhemp (Crotalaria juncea L.) and groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.) during June (40.5 and 59.9 beetles per sq. m, respectively) on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus Moench) during July (41 beetles/sq. m) and on paddy (Oryza saliva L.) during October (40 beetles/sq. m). Moist conditions and crop phenology appeared to be conducive for the development of the predator. Observations also revealed that the predator was associated with 17 crop plants 5 weeds and 2 ornamental plants. In view of the present findings any of these crops can be suitably be manipulated to device relay cropping system.
