The present study was aimed at investigating the effect of different strains of mithun calf on birth weight and growth pattern at different stages of age up to 12 months; 12 mithun calves irrespective of sex were divided into 2 genetical groups of 6 animals each based on their home origin. Between the different home origin of mithun, Mizoram strain was higher birth weight (21.67ñ0.70 kg) than that of Arunachal strain (21.08ñ0.86 kg) which showed statistically nonsignificant variation between the two strains. During the period of 0-3 months of age, the average growth rate of mithun calves was 350.92ñ24.77 and 499.07ñ21.10 g/h/d for Mizoram and Arunachal strains, respectively. The difference between the strains was statistically significant (P0.01). It is inferred from this study that mithun of two different home origin would be considered as more or less similar to the birth weieht and growth pattern.
