Performance of rice varieties under different time of planting in Boro season

Five short duration (Calture I, IR 50, Govind, China and Jagilee) and three medium duration (Joymati, Mala and Mahsuri) varieties were evaluated in boro season tmder three dates of planting (20 January, 4 and 19 February 1996 with 55 days old seedlings) at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Shillongani, Nagaon in 1995-96. Among short duration varieties, Govind was the best followed by China and among medium duration varieties Mahsuri was the best followed closely by Joymati. Planting on 20 January 1996 produced the highest yield in all the varieties except for Mala which showed better performance under 4 February 1996 planting.
