Genetic Variation of Damascus Goats in Jordan.
2003
Jawasreh, Kh.I.Z
A total of 1167 milk yield records on total (TMY), test day (TDM), pre (MYBW) and post (MYAW) Weaning milk yield of 669 Damascus does raised at Walla goat breeding station for four milking seasons (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001) were analyzed. Also, body weight at birth, weaning and 6-month weights (2004, 1811 and 829 record, respectively) of Damascus kids were utilized for this study to evaluate all the animals genetically by predicting their breeding values through exploiting the genetic parameters obtained from Mixed Model after adjusting the records for the fixed effects. General Linear Model and Restricted Maximum Likelihood methods were used to estimate BLUE for fixed effects and variance component for random effects respectively. Animal Model Program was used to predict the breeding values and producing ability for animal individually depending on one trait, then these values were ranked for selection. Genetic and phenotypic trends for the studied traits were estimated as a regression of breeding and phenotypic values on birth years, respectively. Restricted selection index for 6 months and weaning weights with restriction on birth weight was constructed.
