In Estonia the evaluation of breeding bulls was started in 1960. On the initiative of Adolf Moelder, the first Pedigree Breeding Experiment Station, where the first-calved daugters of the evaluated sires were brought, was established at Vorbuse. Similar experiment stations were founded on majority of experiment farms of the Estonian Research Institute of Animal breeding and Veterinary Science. The objective of the present investigation was to study the relationship between the breeding values for milk productivity, conformation traits and somatic cell count, to create a basis for improving the methods for complex estimation of bulls.
