Effect of synergists on the toxicity of some insecticides to Plutella xylostella (L.) under laboratory conditions
2002
Jessar, R.D.
The present study on the effect of synergists on the toxicity of some insecticides to Pltella xylostella L. indicates that LC50 of Lufenuron alone was 1.14 mg/ml, with synergist PB 0,6 mg/ml, DEF 0.74 mg/ml and with both synergists combined way 0.57 mg/ml. The LC50 of Profenophos was 8.67 mg/ml, with PB 4.62 mg/ml; with DEF 3.73 mg/ml, combination of both synergistic gave LC50 4.12 mg/ml. Cyhalothrin singly gave LC50 0.0418 mg/ml, there was slightly increased toxicity with PB, while DEF substantially increased and with combination of both did not increased the toxicity of Cyhalothrin The LC50 of Spinosad was 0.37 mg/ml, when used alone, while the individually with PB and DEF increased the toxicity and LC50 was recorded at 0.22 mg/ml. There was some additive effect was noticed when both synergists were used in combination. The LC50 of avermectins recorded against Plutella xylostella L. in present study was at 0.013 mg/ml. A very small amount of synergism was recorded with the pretreatment of both synergists. Avermectins was found to be most toxic compound compared with other insecticides. On the basis of LC50 values the highest rate of synergism was recorded when both synergists were applied in combination. From the experiment conducted, it could be concluded that the Avermect in and Spinosad were most effective against 4th instar larvae of P. xylostella L. The combination of synergists PB and DEF was effective against 4th instar larvae of P. xylostella L.
