The study aims to ascertain the role of extension agent in improving the production of dates in the project area (District Panjgur). The data has been collected from 75 respondents in five villages through a pretest interview schedule. The survey reveals that 90% of respondents perform their field operation with the help of family members. Regarding output, about 71% of the respondents is not satisfied from output of date palm. Similarly 41% of the respondents told that extension staff visits them once a year and 24% responded that the extension staff never visits their fields. The study reveals that a large gap exist between extension, research department and farmers. For rapid diffusion of date cultivation among the farmers in those parts, which are suitable for date farming, the existing gap should be bridged. Large number of sample respondents i.e. about 70% are in favor of Muzawati variety followed by 20% respondents showing interest for Kaheraba. The major problems faced by respondents are marketing problems (75%), insect/pest problems (14%), transportation (5%). The respondents report that date cultivation could spread rapidly if problem like marketing etc are solved. It is also found that date farming is very lucrative for Balochi farmers to improve their socio-economic conditions.
