A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 and 3500 ppm) on rooting of litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) in air layering at pilot application (PAC) Jabban, Dargai, Malakand Agency. during 2001-2002 The experiment was laid out according to Complete Block Design (RCBD). The ringed shoots of litchi were treated with different concentrations for 5 seconds. Different concentrations of IBA significantly affected various parameters studied for air According to the experimental results maximum number of roots per plant (32.97), root length (9.59 cm). (4.00 g), root volume (4.86 ml); root diameter (1.77 mm), shoot length (29.27 cm), shoot diameter (4.48 mm) number of leaves (15.63) and percent plant survival (75.23%) were recorded in layers treated with 2500 ppm While minimum number of roots per plant (10.53). root length (4.53 cm); root weight (1.56g), root volume (1.90 ml), root diameter (0.32 mm), shoot length (17.28 cm). shoot diameter (2.98 mm), number of leaves (5.13) and plant survival (36.20) were noted in control treatment. Therefore, 2500 ppm of IBA is recommended for toot induction in litchi air layers in the agro-climatic conditions of Dargai, Malakand Agency.
