Pyrethroids against spiny bollworm

Two species of spiny bollworms, Earias insulana Boisd. and E. vittella Fb. are reported to damage cotton in Sindh. To evaluate the efficacy of two synthetic pyrethroids insecticides against the E. insulana, study was carried out at Agricultural Research Institute, Tandojam on variety Qalandri. The products tested consists Baythroid (two formulations) and compared with Ripcord as well as untreated check. The data indicated that the products tested reduced the population of spiny bollworms of cotton, E. insulana effectively. All the insecticides decreased the pest population significantly as compared to the un-treated check but amongst the insecticides there was no significant difference.
