2002
Mobeen, S.
The present study was conducted to find out the proximate analysis and mineral composition of Lohi sheep meat and blood in relation to gender collected from the slaughter house of Faisalabad. Samples were taken from young (1-2 years old) male, female (n=12) and old (4-5 years old) male and female (n=12) Meat samples were and age. Meat samples were drawn from the chest and neck regions and were chemically analyzed for protein, fat and minerals (Na, K, Cl, Mn, Fe, Zn and Cu) contents. Blood samples were centrifuged for the analysis of plasma protein, albumin, globulin, glucose, and cholesterol and for minerals. Meat protein content of old animals was significantly different than young animals, while plasma proteins were significantly higher in young female and old male. Sodium and potassium contents of tissues were significantly high in young male while sodium and potassium contents plasma were higher in male as compared to female irrespective of age. Zinc, chloride, iron and manganese contents in tissues and blood of Lohi sheep were. not significantly different. Copper content of meat was higher in young as compared to old animals while plasma copper concentration was found higher in old female and lowest in young female. Plasma albumin in blood, between age and sex of sheep was- no significantly different. Plasma Globulin in young male was high compared to young female and old male and female sheep. Glucose significantly high in young animals as concentration in plasma was compared to old animals.
