The aim of this paper was to determine the number of nitrogen cycle bacteria in the domestic wastewater treated on reed beds at the wastewater treatment plant in Leguty. Microbiological determinations and physico-chemical measurements (ChZT, total nitrogen, N-NH4(+), total phosphorus, P-PO4(-) of the suspension) were conducted alongside. Ammonifying, ureic and nitrate reducing bacteria occurred in large numbers, in the order of magnitude from 10E to 10E11. The counts of nitrifying bacteria ranged from 10 to 10E4
