Rehabilitation of mine soils is necessary due to the important environmental impacts caused by the spoil dumps, this fact moved to develop legislation measures in this regard. Usual lack of topsoil implies important increases in the cost of rehabilitation. Alternative techniques look at the combination of mine spoils with by-products to create topsoil substitutes, but these actuations need to be done in a rational way to avoid adverse effects. A methodological approach for the rehabilitation of mine soils using mine spoils and by-products is proposed in this paper, trying to consider the main facts involved in the process of rehabilitation. To conclude, the results achieved in the experiences of rehabilitation of the Mequinenza Basin minesoils are presented
