Determination of some heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe) in seawater and marine sediments from the Bang Pakong estuary to Sri Racha (7 stations) was carried out during July to December 1995. It was found that the ranges of average concentrations of heavy metals in seawater were Pb 0.9-8.1 ug/L, Cd 0.03-0.3 ug/L, Zn 0.4-13.2 ug/L, Cu ND-5.1 ug/L, Mn ND-1.9 ug/L and Fe 33.4-466 ug/L. The average concentrations of heavy metals in sediments were Pb 11.1-16.8 ug/g dry weight, Cd ND-0.05 ug/g dry weight, Zn 26.5-35.9 ug/g dry weight, Cu 4.7-12.1 ug/g dry weight, Mn 262-749 ug/g dry weight and Fe 5,820-8,327 ug/g dry weight. Concentrations of heavy metals in seawater and sediments were found to fluctuate monthly. A high concentration of heavy metals in sediments, with the exception of Cd, was found at the Bang Pakong estuary. The average concentrations of heavy metals in seawater from the present study were still lower than Thai coastal water quality standard for aquaculture. (ND=non-detectable)
