Experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during November 1994 to March 1995 in a sandy loam soil with two wheat varieties, namely, Aghrani and Kanchan and five fertilization treatments. Kanchan was the superior variety which produced 2.99 t/ha grain yield, 3.79 t/ha straw yield compared to 2.75 t/ha grain yield, 3.49 t/ha straw yield of Aghrani variety. Aghrani had shorter field duration (107.0 days) than Kanchan (111.1 days). Fertilization treatments exhibited significant influence on all parameters studied except the number of grains per spikelet. Urea in 4 splits + cowdung 10 t/ha produced the highest grain yield of 3.44 t/ha, straw yield of 4.21 t/ha compared to inorganic fertilizers which produced the lowest grain yield of 2.31 t/ha, straw yield of 3.14 t/ha. Field duration was the longest (111.5 days) from the previous treatment and the shortest (106.7 days) from the inorganic fertilizer only. The results suggested that higher dose of inorganic fertilizers with increased number of split applications of urea and organic manuring than the recommended dose of inorganic fertilizers increased grain yield and yield components of wheat under conditions of the experiment.
