Effect of cowdung on the abiotic and biotic factors of pond water

Study was carried out to see the effect of cowdung (0 kg/ha, 1,250 kg/ha, 2,500 kg/ha and 5,000 kg/ha) on the abiotic and biotic factors of pond water bodies during the period from January to April 1991. The abiotic factors such as, water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and biotic factors such as, phytoplankton and zooplankton showed significant change during the period of study. Cowdung changes the physico-chemical factors (except temperature) of water and also increases the production of planktonic communities.
