Efficacy of extracts from some medicinal plants on diamondback moths, Plutella xylostella (L.)

Efficacy of extracts (10 g medicinal plants/100 ml water) obtained from twenty species of medicinal plants: clove, tobacco, Acacia concinna (Willd.) DC., yam bean, barzilian tea, asthma weed, lady of the night, cayenne pepper, bottle brush tree, Cinchona leugeriana Moens, sesban, the creat, Schefflera leucantha Viguier, Chinese ginger, Cissue quadragularis Linn., Cleome gynandra Linn., chinese rose, paper flower, bitter cucumber and thatch grass was tested on 3rd instar larva of diamondback moths. The results showed that extracts from clove had the highest effect which showed results mortality percentage at 100, followed by extracts from tobacco, yam bean, barzilian tea, asthma weed, lady of the night, cayenne papper, bottle brush tree, C. leugeriana, seseban, the creat, S. leucantha and chinese ginger, which showed mortality percentage at 96, 84, 76, 68, 60, 54, 48, 48, 46, 46, 40, 36 and 30, respectively. Extracts from C. quadragularis, C. gynadra, chinese rose, paper flower, bitter cucumber and thatch grass caused 20-80 percent of larval mortality.
