2002
Nguyen Huy Son | Nguyen Tuan Hung
The high content of essential oil in anise (Illicium verum Hook F.) seed causes many difficulties for conservation. The effect of seed moisture content and storage temperature on the viability of anise seeds was studied. The study showed that the seed viability can be extended when moisture content higher than 30 percent. The germination rate is extremely reduced when moisture content is inferior 10 percent. The ideal conditions for conservation of anise seeds were experienced as following: The initial moisture of seeds should be in the range of 36-39 percent; storage temperature: 5oC. In the such conditions anise seeds maintained a high percentage of germination (38-42.5 percent)for up to 12 months.
