Diseases of Eucalypts and epidemic control measures
2002
Pham Quang Thu
Studies on Eucalypt diseases were conducted by Forest Science Institute of Vietnam in co-operation with Commowealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (Australia), aiming to identify the causes and to assess the damage of these diseases. The findings showed that Eucalypt diseases are spreading quite fast and widely in the whole country. At least 10 species of pathogenic fungi were found out, which caused the different diseases. In the North Vietnam the most important fungi species is Cryptosporiopsis eucalypti, causing heavy damage to Eucalyptus camaldulensis of Petford provenance. In Central and South Vietnam three fungi species were widely found: Cylindrocladium quinqueseptatum; Cryptosporiopsis eucalypti and Pseudocercospora eucalyptorum. These are the dangerous species, causing epidemy for pure eucalypt plantations. Some measures to control disease are suggested.
