Food additives in concentrated flavored syrup packed in tightly closed containers

Two hundreds and thirty-nine samples of concentrated flavored syrup collected from 23 provinces of Thailand were analysed for preservatives (benzoic acid, sorbic acid and salicylic acid) saccharin and food coloring agents during agents during 1999 to 1992. Samples which produced from 71 manufactors were submitted by Food and Drug Administration, provincial public health inspectors and manufactures. the results showed that 25.5 percent of the samples did not comply with the Notification of the Ministry of Public Health No.62 (B.E. 2524) 16.7 and 12.5 percent contained over amount of benzoic acid and colors, respectively. Furthermore, salicylic acid and saccharin which were not allow to be used in beverages, were found in 2.3 and 8.8 percent of the samples, respectively.
