Experiment was conducted to determine the optimum requirement of protein and energy for native chickens in Northern Thailand. Nine diets containing protein as levels of 19, 18 and 17 percent (during 0-8 weeks); 16, 15 and 14 percent (during 9-16 weeks); 14, 13 and 12 percent (during 17-20 weeks) and each of protein level composed of energy at levels of 2,900, 2,800 and 2,700 Kcal ME/Kg for all experimental periods. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in 3*3 factorial experiment was used in this study. The experiment composed of 3 blocks with 9 dietary treatments of ten chicks each. All parameters were measured over the twenty weeks period. The results showd that protein, energy and co-factor did not have any effect on the performance of chickens during starting and intermediate periods. However, some effects were shown after 18 weeks of age. It is concluded that optimum dietary levels of protein for native chickens should be 18, 15 and 13 percent during 0-8, 9-16 and 17-20 weeks of age, respectively, and energy requirement is 2,800 Kcal ME/Kg for all periods.
