Mutation genetic studies in mungbean I. Variability components and genetic parameters
1995
Khan, Samiullah | Siddiqui, Bahar A. (Mutation Breeding Laboratory, Aligarh (India). Dept. of Botany)
Pre-soaked seeds of mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) were treated with sodium azide (0.01 to 0.03 percent) and data were recorded on biological damage in M1 and on quantitive characters in M3 generation. The percentage of seed germination, seedling height and pollen fertility decreased with an increase in concentration of the mutagen. Survival percentage was reduced after mutagen treatments, however, no relationship between percent plant survival and concentration was observed. Quantitative characters like fertile branches per plant, pods per plant and total plant yield expressed high values of genotypic variance, heritability (broad sense) and genetic advance in M3 generation, suggesting the possibilities of effective selection and improvement for these characters in future generations.
