This report describes an outbreak of melioidosis in three goats which was caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, a gram negative bacilli. The animals manifested both acute and chronic forms, resulting in septicaemia and abscesses in various organs, respectively. The distinctive feature of chronic form in male animals was orchitis. In addition, a serological examination using indirect hemagglutination assay was subsequently performed in other livestock reared in the same area. At the cut-off titer = 1:40, seropositivity was detected in goats (1.7 percent; 2/117) and cattle (9.5 percent; 2/21) even though annual outbreaks commonly occurred in goats but no cases were observed among cattle.
