Technicla inefficiency of intensive shrimp farming is evaluated using a deterministic parametric frontier approach. Data were based on 75 observations obtained from a farm survey conducted in Ranot district, Songkhla Province, Southern Thailand. A number of shrimp farms were found to operate their enterprises in an extremely technically inefficient manner as indicated by very low technical efficiency indices. Farmer's level of experience with shrimp culture has positive effects on technical efficiency while the size of pond and feed conversion ratio have negative effects on technical efficiency, indicating that larger pond size and higher feed conversion ratio are more technical inefficient. Level of stocking rate has no effect on technical efficiency.
