One of the form of conserving, testing and using gene pool of endemic-relic tree species ex situ, as well as commercial exploitation, is the establishment of provenience tests and seedling seed orchards. In West Serbia, near Uzice, Pozega and Ivanjica, provenience test of Norvey spruce and seedling orchards of Serbian spruce, Austrian pine and Balkan maple were established. There are several essential reasons for establishing provenience test and seedling seed orchards of these species: development of production of genetically improved seed, using spontaneous and controlled hybridization, and enhancement and conservation of selected genotypes ex situ
