External and internal egg quality traits were studied over a laying year in 3 small flocks of Isabrown layers housed in cages, on deep litter and on the free range. The eggs were investigated individually, following traits of external and internal characteristics were measured. Average egg weight was lowest on free range, and highest in cages, all differences in this traits between system being significant. The egg shape index was significantly smaller on the free range than in other systems. Quality expressed in Haugh unit was statistically lower in case of eggs from deep liter. Eggs from cage system had in average 83.20 HU, deep litter eggs 80.12 HU and free range eggs 85.24 HU. The content of Pb and Zn were higher in eggs from the free range. Bone strength and bone ashes percentage of spent hens were the best on free range and worst in cages.
