A proper solution of the ventilation system presents an important factor for safe and comfortable work in all underground mines. This significant fact is particularly expressed in coal mines due to potential hazards such as: methane, flammable and explosive coal dust, coal tendency to spontaneous combustion and initiation of pit fires. This paper presents the review of current condition and actual problems of ventilation system in active mines in Serbia, pointing out the defects in the existing systems. A suggestion has been made for the possible improvements of ventilation systems, the realization of which should contribute to a higher level of safety in underground coal mines in Serbia.
