The production of red spice pepper in Serbia (Serbia and Montenegro) and particularly in AP Vojvodina is of great importance both for home consumption and export. For obtaining a high yield and quality a production method is essential. The research comprised different production methods of red spice pepper: from seedlings and by direct sowing from seeds and their influence on the yield, dry matter content and coloured matter in the pepper fruit. The results show that by direct sowing better yield are achieved but with a partly reduced quality. The dry matter content is decreased by 1.6% and coloured matter by 1.10 g/kg of ground pepper, while the yield is increased by 3 t/ha on average. Considering a much more rational production by direct sowing the production of red spice pepper by direct sowing from seeds can be recommended.
