Influence of spraying apple with Ca-chloride solution, in beginning phases of fruit development, on content of calcium and appearance of the bitter pit

The most important physiological disease of apple is bitter pit that causes large economic disastre in orchards and storages worldwide and in our country (Serbia and Montenegro). Due to the economic reason the base of intensive researching were conducted in the aim of finding the most effective way of bitter pit control. Today practice is spraying apple fruits with calcium solution in the aim of increasing calcium content and controlling bitter pit to the end of August and the first half of September. Taking in consideration the fact that the most intensive accumulating of calcium content is in the first weeks of fruits development there were making efforts to treating apple fruits with solution of calcium chloride in the first part of vegetation in the aim of increasing calcium content in fruits and to appearance of bitter pit in storages. In some years and fruit cultivars in experiment was got increased content of calcium, while the bitter pit appearance is decreased at all cultivars during two years in experiment.
