The aim of the experiments was to test which energy crops are suitable for making briquettes. Briquettes made out from coriander, crambe, saphlor, sorrel, sorghum, reed canary grass, knotweed, barley straw and rapeseed straw were compared. The crops were grinded before pressing. All the crops had a constant moisture content (9-11%) and a uniform diameter of the briquettes (65 mm). The highest volume weight was found in coriander, saphlor, rapeseed straw, sorghum, sorrel and knotweed, the lowest one in reed canary grass, crambe and barley straw. The highest force for the briquette disintegration was necessary for knotweed, saphlor, sorrel, sorghum and coriander, the lowest one was measured for reed canary grass, barley and rapeseed straw and crambe. Crambe contains a high level of oil in its seeds and this fact causes difficulties during their pressing. Thus, crambe seeds cannot be pressed into briquettes.
