Wood supply and demand in Ghana: sustaining the wood industry through the creation of new resource base.
1996
Amankwah, G.
The ability of the wood based industry to continuously contribute to the country's socio-economic development is linked to the availability of adequate and sustained raw material base to provide logs for its industrial needs. This paper seeks to discuss the supply and demand of timber resources of Ghana in an attempt to justify the need for the creation of new resource base to supplement existing raw material base to sustain the wood industry in Ghana. Topics covered include present timber resources of the country, structure of the timber industry and industry performance. An analysis is made of current log production vis-à-vis the Annual Allowable Cut (ACC). The present log requirement for domestic processing is discussed as well as the domestic market's sawn timber requirement.
