The FORAFRI project has, since 1996, collated and synthesized over thirty years of tropical forest research in central and western Francophone Africa. This volume presents results of ayous (Triplochiton scleroxylon) and sapelli (Entandrophragma cylindricum) diameter increment studies; measurements were taken in natural forest plots in the Sangha Mbaere region of the Central African Republic. Results are compared with growth ring studies in other African countries (Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Ghana and Gabon) including increment studies of other important commercial tropical timber species. In the conclusion, the authors emphasize that the measurement period (the 1980s) represents only a very short period of time relative to the life cycle of such large tropical tree species.
