Some mechanical properties of Amphimas pterocarpoides.
1995
Gyamfi, C. K. | Breese, M. C.
The following properties of the wood of 2 trees of Amphimas pterocarpoides from Ghana were determined: moisture content, relative density, compression parallel to the grain, static bending MOE and MOR, hardness, impact bending, shear parallel to the grain and radial and tangential cleavage strength. For most properties there were significant differences between the 2 trees. The height of sampling was significant but distance from the pith was not (except for density values). Mean strength values were higher than those for iroko (Milicia excelsa [Chlorophora excelsa]) and therefore Amphimas pterocarpoides might be considered a suitable substitute for this species in certain applications.
