Influence of potassium and sulphur with or without FYM on growth, productivity and disease index of potato in soils of West Bengal

Field experiment was carried out during rabi season (1994-96) on sandy clay loam soils at farmer's field of Chandmari (Kalyani) in West Bengal to study the growth, productivity and disease infestation of potato under the influence of potassium and sulphur with or without FYM. Maximum dry matter production, bulking rate and tuber yield (297q/ha(-1)) of potato were obtained with120 kg N, 100 kg P2O5 and 100 kg K2O ha(-1) along with 10t FYM ha(-1). Application of potassium significantly increased the dry matter production, tuber bulking rate and tuber yield as compared to control. Split application of potassium was better than basal. Addition of sulphur through SSP or K2SO4 also gave higher dry matter production, tuber bulking rate and tuber yield. The potassium content in potato plant was negatively (r= -0.84) associated with disease incidence but was associated positively (r= -0.82) with the tuber yield.
