The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, more commonly known as "APEDA" is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Over 14,000 members of APEDA collectively export agricultural and food products worth Rs 10,169.92 crores. As it is evident from the name, work for export promotion and market development for agricultural commodities and processed foods is undertaken by this authority. The products under the purview of APEDA includes fresh fruits and vegetables, floriculture, processed foods, meat, poultry, milk and other livestock products, foodgrains, cereals, seeds and allied products. Through an effective databank, APEDA disseminates market information to prospective buyers and sellers. Other services rendered include market promotion, technology transfer, joint ventures, etc., says Mr Anil Swarup, Chairman, APEDA, New Delhi.
