The future of sawmilling industry in Kenya with respect to the supply of raw materials

The history of sawmilling industry is hightened fron 1913 puting emphisis on growth. The export market has been shown as one of the factors which triggared the expansion of the sawmilling industry. A number of factors both economic and managerial which have led to the decline of the industry are discussed in details. Demand for sawlogs and pulpwood has been shown to rise continously over the years with a possibility of demand outstripping supply. Technology in use and the impact of the industry on the labour market is duscussed. the paper concludes with a number of recommendations or suggestions on how this vital industry can be sustained.
