Cheboiwo, Joshua Kiplongei | Dr. Byron, Neil (Supervisor) | Dr. Odera
This thesis on rural afforestation discusses first the historical perspective of land use and the people of Kenya, looking at the traditional land use systems, land use evolution during the colonial period, forest resources, as well as the distribution of natural forest systems. Farm forestry in some case studies is also discussed in detail, looking into the input and output valuation, land and labor valuation, capital and equipment, among other issues of farm forestry. Further on socio-economic issues in arid and semi-arid lands are discussed, looking primarily at afforestation. Under this a case study of Yatta B2 in Kenya is carried out. Finally a general conclusion is done.
