Forest resources in arid and semi arid lands (ASALs) are dwelling fast due to increasing population, expanding agriculture fields and energy generation. The processes that are depleting forests in ASALs are those related to domestic energy production and consumption such as charcoal burning. To reduce the amount of energy and time spent on fuel wood collection, conservation of the existing trees and planting of more trees on farms has to be emphasized This paper explores the energy crises in ASALs and SOFEMs involvement
