1994
Blackett, H. L. | Lukandu, George | Obara, Alex
This report, covering Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve is one of a series produced by the Forest Inventory Section of the Kenya Indigenous Forest Conservation Project (KIFCON) and is based on aerial photo interpretation, mapping and fieldwork carried out between June and September 1991. The Forest Inventory was a component of a multi-disciplinary inventory undertaken by the Kenyan Government with support from the Overseas Development Administration of the UK. The immediate objectives of KIFCON included determination of conservation priorities and preparation of management recommendations. The wider objectives were to conserve the biological diversity, ecological services and productivity of indigenous closed forests in Kenya. In support of these objectives the aim of the Forest Inventory was to provide updated estimates of forest area and the total standing volume by species and habitat, in those areas with potential commercial yields, as the basis for preparation of sustainable timber extraction plans and for input into comprehensive reports detailing the major management options.
