A distillate is produced during the charcoal production process. From the charcoal distillate's dry form a feed additive was elaborated. It contained 67.4% of wood acetic acid and other natural components. The cross Lohmann Brown layers' feed mix supplemented by 0.15% of the charcoal distillate feed additive did not essentially influence the layers' productivity. The charcoal distillate feed additive influenced the crop, proventriculus and duodenum pH level that had a slight tendency to decrease in these organs' feed mass. Whereas in small intestine (pH=5.37) and caecum (pH=5.70) the decrease of pH level was significant compared to pH level in the control group layers' small intestine and caecum content (p0.01), which in its turn decreased the count of Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus spp. microorganisms colonies forming units in the caecum content.
