In practice there are often cases of enlargement of aged dog's prostate, which causes problems with defecation and urination. For precise diagnostics it is necessary to carry out diagnostic biopsy and histological tissue investigation. There are no reports about such investigations in Latvia. We carried out macromorphological and histological investigations of prostate, which received from euthanasied dogs in VEC (veterinary education center) clinic. Initially we measured weight of each dog (kg), cleared out age (years). Immediately after euthanasia we weighted prostates (g) and volume (ml). We made histological preparations in Riga Stradina University, Department of Anthropology and anatomy in cooperation with head of Department of histology Prof. M. Pilmane. We carried out examination and analyses of these preparations. In total we received and had analyzed 19 samples of prostate. In process of investigation we cleared out, that 52% of animals had prostate hyperplasia, but second part had atrophy of prostate, which correlated with enlargement of prostate in both cases, because in the first case prostate enlarged due enlargement of glandular tissues, but in second case due enlargement of connective tissue. Mean age of dogs with glandular hyperplasia was 10.7 years. From literature this pathology is in 85-95% cases in animals, who had reached age of 9 years, but in 60 % cases animals of 6 years age. During investigation we cleared out that there is close correlation between prostate weight (g) and volume (ml) |r| = 0.99.
