Variety traits are the most important factor for succesful production realization. The variety 'Magdalena' was bred by hybridisation method in Priekuli Plant Breeding station. The hybrid 89-50.25 was selected in 1991. During 1999 to 2001 variety 'Magdalena' was investigated in the State Variety Testing, during 2000 to 2001 DUS - test was carried out in Poland. The average yield in the competitive trials (1998-2002) was 44 t haE-1, starch content 14.7 per cent. New medium late variety 'Magdalena' is suitable for food (cooking type AB). The variety is resistant to wart disease and PCN Ro1. 'Magdalena' is included in the Latvian Catalogue of Plant Varieties for 2004.
