In this study the effect of peat substrate on root development and mycorrhization of spruce seedlings was studied. Peat from different forest types was used in this experiment. Peat agrochemical characteristics were compared. The program Win Rhizo was used to describe morphological parameters of seedlings. It was concluded that the following parameters did not reveal significant differences in characteristics of different substrate types: total length, surface area and volume of roots, as well as the number of root tips. In order to compare substrate parameters, the root length should be analysed according to diameter classes. It is important to note branching and disposition of mycorrhiza. Seedlings from bad growing sites are characterized by convoluted and dark mycorrhiza with thin fungal mantle. Seedlings from good growing sites are characterized by yellow light mycorrhiza with thick fungal mantle.
