European Union direct payments for Latvian farmers

In the paper essentials of the standard payments scheme and simplified payments scheme were ascertained, and the choice of receiving EU payments in compliance with the simplified payments scheme in Latvia was justified. EU direct payments received by Latvian farmers have exceeded the amount of national subsidies paid in 2003 by 42 million Ls. The number of applications for EU direct payments in 2004 exceeded the respective number for national subsidies by 55 thousand.
