Stability of the reproductive cycle in purebred Arabian mares connected with their performance value. Pt. 1. Genetic conditions of heat and pregnancy lengths
Sobczuk, D.(Akademia Rolnicza, Lublin (Poland). Inst. Nauk Rolniczych w Zamosciu)
The research conducted in 1970-96 embraced 397 purebred Arabian mares bred in the State Stud Farms of Bialka (42 heads), Janow Podlaski (153), Kurozweki (71) and Michalow (131). For the tested mares, heat lengths registered in breeding records of separate studs were collected. In the tested stud, the indices for the heat length studied were variability, repeatability and heritability. In the purebred Arabian horse population in Poland, one can specify genetic lines based on the highly significant differences in heat and pregnancy lengths. The pregnancy length in Arabian mares within the distinguished damlines showed high repeatability and low variability, whereas the repeatability of heat length was moderate and its variability was high. The heat length in Arabian mares belongs to low heritable features, whereas its correlation with pregnancy length is low and negative
