Residues of Malathion in tomato

Malathion (S - 1 - bis (Ethoxycarbonyl) ethyl o, o- Dimethylphosphorodithoate) is an organophosphorous insecticide classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as class III pesticide (slightly toxic), with a reported oral LD* (Rat) of 1370 mg/kg for male. The insecticide was tested as Malathion 57; EC produced by Stauros Zannetos LTD (Cyprus) and introduced by Alpha Trading Company to control insect pests on tomato. Plots of tomato (strain B) were treated three times with the insecticide formulation at the rate of 2.5 Litre per fedden. Samples of tomato fruits were picked at zero, 1, 3, 5, and 7 days after the last spray and directly transferred to the laboratory for residue analysis
